Our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Ana Julia Santamaria, age 93, passed away on November 9, 2011 in the presence of family, from complications related to age. Julia was born on January 9, 1918 in Linares, Chile. She married Angelo Adolfo Santamaria, a native of Italy, in October 1942 in Santiago, Chile. In her early life Julia worked in restaurants and as a nanny. She and Adolfo had 4 children - Nina (1942-2006), Adolfo, Carlo, and Carolina. Once married, Julia became a homemaker and ran a "tight ship" at home. She and Adolfo were involved in various business ventures throughout their lives - these included restaurants, hotels, a farm, a winemaking operation, and a grocery store among others. Julia emigrated to the United States in 1971 in response to political turmoil in Chile. Adolfo followed in 1972 after putting their business affairs in order. Julia enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Throughout her life, Julia was known for her skill in the kitchen. She used her skills to bless the lives of her family and those around her. Julia also enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, and spending time with her family. A big prankster, Julia was always quick with a joke and witty humor. Julia is survived by her younger sister Ines Gonzalez in Chile, her children Adolfo, Carlo, and Carolina, along with 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. A viewing for Julia will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday November 12, 2011 in Orem, Utah at the LDS Cherry Hill Stake Center located at 400 East 1700 South. Funeral services will be held immediately afterwards at 11:00 AM. Julia will be interred at the Provo Cemetery on November 12, 2011 following the funeral service. The family thanks friends, neighbors and others who have given help and support. The family also thanks the staff of Orem Nursing and Rehab for the assistance provided, especially during the last 2 weeks.
