Adrian Barclay Fredericks

Adrian Barclay Fredericks, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away July 3, 2007, at his home in Orem due to complications from congestive heart failure.
He was born July 22, 1921 in Sterling Mines, New York, to Clarence and Dorothy Fredericks. He grew up in Tuxedo Park, New York, and graduated from George F. Baker High School in 1939. Following high school, he worked until 1941 when he enrolled in Casey Jones Aeronautics School in New York. Then in 1943, he enlisted in the Air Force where he began his training as a pilot. Because of an abundance of pilots at that time, he was redirected to mechanical and navigational training on military aircrafts. He served in W.W. II as an airplane mechanic flying and testing The B17 and B25 aircraft. His squadron was stationed in Cedar City, Utah where he received additional training. It was here in Cedar City that he met his sweetheart, Iris Beatty, who worked at the Cedar City Airport. Adrian was not a member of the L.D.S. church at the time, but he became interested in both Iris and the church and was baptized. He later married Iris in the St. George Temple on April 25, 1946.
He was discharged from the Air Force on March 19, 1946. They moved back to Long Island, New York where Adrian worked at LaGuardia airport as an airplane mechanic and then later as a machinist making precision parts for the space industry including the Lem spacecraft and other aircraft. He often was assigned jobs that no one else could do. While in New York, they raised 3 children, Adrian, Judith, and Terry. Later the children went to BYU and Ricks and ended up settling in Idaho and Utah. In 1972, Adrian and Iris moved to Orem, Utah to be closer to their children. Adrian then worked until his retirement as a custodial supervisor at Brigham Young University.
He enjoyed the outdoors, loved to go camping, and go fishing in his boat or off the shore. His grandchildren loved to go camping with Grandpa and learn his secrets for catching fish and how to clean them! He loved to make things and was a skilled craftsman at woodworking. His family, friends, and neighbors were recipients of many of his woodworking creations. His children tried to get him to go into business and sell his woodworking items, but he always said he just did it for fun. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits.
Adrian is survived by his loving wife, Iris Beatty Fredericks of Orem, Utah; children, Adrian (Carol) Fredericks of Woodland Hills, Utah and Terry (Jolene) Fredericks of Spanish Fork, Utah, 17 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Clarence Fredericks, his sister Elsie Kerr, and his daughter Judith (Kent) Barlow.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2007, at the Orem Cascade 4th Ward at 1051 E. 200 N., with Bishop Frank Davis officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the Orem Cascade 4th Ward and for one hour prior to the funeral services on Saturday, July 7. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery in Orem, Utah. Online condolences may be submitted to www.serenicare.com
