Alexander Bodi, 94 of Utah, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2009. He was born on December 7, 1914 in Satoraljaujhely, Hungary and at 6 yrs old moved to Fairfield, Connecticut. He married Becky Barriger of Billings, Montana from 1938 to 1992. He later married June Mortensen Hudson of Salt Lake City, from 1994 to present. Alexander was raised and educated in Fairfield Connecticut; he attended Northeastern University, University of Missouri (B.J), University of Chicago (Chinese, Far Easter Studies), San Francisco State University (B.A., M.A., cultural / urban anthropology). Alexander was well spoken; he either spoke or studied English, Hungarian, German, Chinese, French and Italian. He was in WWII, serving in the United Stated Army as an Office of Strategic Services, serving behind enemy lines in China. Alexander held numerous jobs working in the newspaper business. Working as a reporter for Bridgeport (Conn) Times-Star; Chicago City news Bureau; Chicago Times; Great Falls, Mont. Tribune; News Editor, Lewistown (Mont.) Democrat-News; Copy Editor, San Francisco Examiner; Reporter, Bureau Chief, Peninsula Newspaper Inc., (Palo Alta times, Redwood City Tribune); Editor (25 Years) Palo Alto Times; Board of Directors, Peninsula Newspaper Inc. Retired 1979 after Tribune Company of Chicago bought Times, now defunct. Alexander was involved in many organizations over the years. Some of the organizations are the American Society of Newspaper Editors; Society of Professional Journalists (past president. No. Calif. Chapter); California-Nevada Editors Conference (past chairman); California Freedom of Information Committee, ex director; Editor in Residence Program, Western Newspaper Foundation, ex-chairman; California AP News Editors Conference, past Chairman; San Mateo County Bench-Bar-Press Committee; Alexander was a member of the Palo Alto Kiwanis Club, president, the San Mateo County (Calif) Civil Grand Jury, Chairman Pro-Team; the San Mateo County Commission of Aging; and the California Legislative Committee, AARP. Alexander had many achievements some where, Pulitzer Prize juror; he was one of a four member team of editors sent by State Department (1962) to stage journalism seminars for two months in East and West Africa for journalists from former colonial countries. Extensive travel, resulting in published articles, in nearly every country in Europe, in China, Middle East, and Africa. After his second marriage he continued extensive study-related travel trips with June. He is survived by his wife June Hudson Bodi; stepsons, Martin and Tom Hudson; brother, Robert Body; nephews Ronald and Paul Body; niece, Shirley Body; nephew, Herbert B. Barriger; sisters-in-law, Betty Symonds and Julie Brumbaugh.
