Alfred Myers Watkins 1924 ~ 2010 Our beloved Dad and Grandpa returned to his Heavenly Father February 10, 2010, and will be greatly missed. Born on March 26, 1924, in Midvale, Utah to Lyle Dewey and Alfreda (Myers) Watkins, Graduated from Huntington Park High School, Los Angeles CA in 1941. Al grew up in Los Angeles California and developed a love of the ocean as a Sea Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a master fisherman and seaman and worked 3 years as a commercial fisherman. His fishing adventures extended to the far away shores of Costa Rica. He loved to work especially with his Father Lyle and Brother Mel. Together they started and operated 'Watkins Brothers Pool Plastering' which became the largest pool plastering business in Southern California during the 50's and 60's, where they invented and perfected the ability to pump cement through a rubber hose. They even built custom pools for many Hollywood stars including James Franciscus and Bob Hope. Later in life he was self-employed and ran his own backhoe excavation service. He loved a challenge and no job was too big or difficult for Big Al, he would always find a way to get the job done. He enjoyed building boats and taking his family sport fishing off the Southern California and Mexico coast. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Mahlon (Mel) Watkins. Survived by his wife Doreen Watkins, sisters Deanna Klinell and Julie Whipple, his daughters Cheryl Lyon, Janine Duff and son Blaine Watkins, and a legacy of 16 "Grands" and 9 "Greats".
