Alice Madeline Smith

November 23, 1941 — July 27, 2024

Alice Madeline Smith

On Saturday July 27, 2024, at 7:40 PM, Alice Madeline Smith Hudson, made her heavenly transition after being in hospice care in Heber City, Utah for only a few days. She fought a good fight surrounded by the support and love of family, friends and her caregivers. She is now finally free from the pain she had endured since 1996. Although our hearts are filled with sorrow of her passing, we rejoice in the fact that she lived a life full of love, adventure, and true friendships.

Born November 23rd, 1941 in Windom, Minnesota, she was the beloved daughter of Alice Madeline (Muller) and John Morton Smith. From a young age, Madeline’s family knew that her outgoing and charismatic personality would take her places. There were no limits to what she could do or where she could go.

Madeline graduated Windom Class of 1960 and went on to pursue her teaching degree from Mankato State College. She spent several years in education, both in Goodhue and Minneapolis North, Minnesota before making the decision to take an unforgettable “Grand Tour” of Europe.

Upon returning from exploring the world, Madeline made Park City, Utah her home where she had a very successful career as a high-profile ski instructor, top-selling diamond realtor and community theatre actor. Madeline was actively engaged in all aspects of the community allowing her to foster many long-lasting friendships. Madeline’s love of the arts found her closely connected with the local Egyptian Theatre and the Sundance Film festival both as an actor and volunteer. She continued to promote and support the arts throughout her life through her personal and professional network.

After retiring, Madeline’s time was split between the gym, playing bridge, visiting with friends and finding peace listening to books on tape. She always found time to keep very close track of her nephews and nieces, as well her brother through weekly check-ins.

Although no longer physically present, pieces of Madeline’s spirit remain visible in those left behind. She left an everlasting impact on the hearts and minds of all that had the opportunity to be in her presence. She demonstrated how determination and affirmative thinking can help anyone endure and stay strong through the challenges of life. There was no mountain too high.

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents Alice and Mort Smith, her husband Lou Hudson, stepson Louis Hudson jr., and nephew Michael Mundy.

She is survived by brothers Wiley Smith (Sue) and Tony Smith (Heather); stepdaughter Adrienne Hudson-Morgan (Adrian); grandchildren (Ava and Ashton); nieces and nephews; Tami Wrice, Tracey Mapstone (Matt, Kendall & Delanie), Doug and Queenie Aydelott (Gray), caretakers (Crystal & Sierra Wetzel) and extended family/friends around the world.
