Alta Katherine Peay

Alta Katherine Giles Peay returned home to many loved ones and her Father in Heaven after a brief illness. She died in her home in Hobble Creek Canyon in Springville, Utah, facing death with courage and grace, just as she lived everyday of her life. Alta spent her life in service to others and has requested no flowers, but in lieu do something nice for someone who needs a boost in life or have a family party. Alta loved the mountains and spent much of her life at the beloved Giles Ranch in the South Fork of Provo Canyon and the last five years in Hobble Creek Canyon. Life has changed a lot in Utah County since Alta's childhood days when she helped trail livestock up Provo Canyon on horseback each spring.
Alta was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1938, the daughter of Alton Bateman Giles and Donna Thomas Giles. She was preceded in death by her eternal companion, Colonel Edward Lott Peay. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Oct. 10, 1957. Alta is a sweet mother to 4 children, Edward Andy (Mitzi) Peay of Orem, Utah, Don Peay (Sue) of Bountiful, Utah, Camalee Lewis (Butch) Grand Junction, CO and Ben Peay (Kelli) of Hobble Creek Canyon, Utah. Alta and Ed have 16 grandchildren.
Alta was preceded in death by brother Charles "Bert" Giles and Tom Giles. She is survived by her sister Beth Brown of Toole, Utah. Alta is the first to pass away of the Maeser Elementary Club Girls, a rarity today that for some 60 years, a group of 8 ladies remained active lifelong friends.
The viewing will be held Thursday, May 31, 2007 from 10 a.m. till 11:45 at the LDS Hobble Creek Stake Center 495 South Canyon road in Springville, Utah. Funeral services will be held immediately after, and Alta will be laid to rest in the Provo City Cemetery. Arrangements made by SereniCare Funeral Directors.
