Arthur Z. Draper

Arthur Zemira Draper, 68, passed away peacefully November 27, 2009 in Springville, UT. He was born May 28, 1941 in Provo to Verrill W and Dolly Fay Montague Draper.
He attended Maeser Grade, Farrer Junior High and Provo High Schools, where he excelled in all subjects, but especially math. He graduated in 1958 having won the National Merit Scholarship Award in Mathematics. He also won the Magnum Lewis Scholarship which led him to Brigham Young University. In 1964, Arthur earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, and in 1967 he earned his Master's Degree in Statistics, both from BYU. In 1965 he went to work for DHI Computing Services as a programmer for 29 yearsa€"where he excelled in being able to solve the most difficult problems they faced.
Arthur loved animals and once owned a small ranch in Lakeside, UT where he raised Arabian Horses until he became too ill to manage the operation.
Arthur loved to travel domestically and internationally. On his own he learned to speak German, French and small amount of Japanese and Spanish. He was an avid reader of Church History, Science and the Classics, and was diligent in his study of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all his life, Arthur loved to serve the Lord as a Home Teacher, Ward Financial Clerk and Genealogical Worker, as well as attend the Temple on a regular basis.
He met Joann Swank in 1994, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple that same year.
In the last year of his life, Arthur was well cared for by his doctors, nurses, the Art City Nursing Home, and Hospice Staff.
He is survived by his wife, Joann; step-children, Cherie Barbre, Robert Wm. (Tammy) Swank, Christopher L. (Michelle) Swank, Tamela A. (Chad) Larkin; 32 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers, David (Judith) and Wendell (Margaret). He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Chelan and Gary.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Spring Creek Stake Center (760 North 400 East) in Springville, Utah, with Funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. A procession will commence to Timpanogos Memorial Gardens (1000 North 400 East) in Orem, Utah immediately after the funeral services.
