Betty H Baird

Betty Hollingshead Black Baird, age 77, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend passed away at her home in Riverton, Utah and was reunited with her parents Theodore and Harriet Hollingshead and her spouse William Baird on June 17, 2009, following a short battle with cancer.
She began her life on Aug. 4, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She grew up there until her family moved to Bountiful in 1945. She graduated from Davis High School in 1948. She married Keith Black, Sept. 27, 1949 (later divorced). They had nine children together. She spent 20 years with her husband and family in the military moving from place to place. She lived in California, Virginia, Japan, Maryland, Washington D.C. South Carolina, and Alaska. She moved back to Utah in 1968, where she lived in Centerville until 1994. At that time she built a new home in Riverton where she lived the rest of her life.
She worked as a secretary for the State Department of Transportation and the State Division of Finance for 23 years until her retirement in 1993. She held many church callings and loved the gospel. She especially loved playing the organ and doing genealogy work. Her love of family was evidenced by the time she took to remember everyone's birthdays and her year-long preparations for family Christmas Eve at her home. She enjoyed creating things with her hands. She was an excellent seamstress and was always knitting or crocheting. She is survived by her children Terry (Melanie) Black, Wendy (Todd) Rice, Brian (Kristi) Black, Shawn Black, Layne (Jan) Black, Holly Jacobson, Tanna (Brian) Jenson, and Daren (Lisa) Black, 41 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 3 sisters, Lenny Rochek, Sallie Adams, and Carol Nielsen.
A special thanks to those at Pinnacle Hospice who helped make her last days comfortable. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 23, at 11:30 a.m., in Bluffdale at 1224 W. 16580 S. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at the Heber City Cemetery.
