Bob Byerline

"I have passed the mountain peak and my soul is soaring in the firmament of complete and unbounded freedom; I am in comfort, I am in peace." Kahlil Gibran
Sunday morning was a beautiful morning. The type of morning that Bob loved to go for his morning walks. He died peacefully on this morning of April 29, 2007 of lung cancer. He was born September 11, 1940 to Albert D. and Calla S. Byerline in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bob was educated in Salt Lake City, having attended The University of Utah and graduated from Westminster College. It was at Westminster College where he met, fell in love with, and married Joan Johnson. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 921st Combat Engineers in Viet Nam where he was decorated with the Bronze Star and the Bronze Star for valor with Oak Leaf Cluster. Bob spent his entire professional career in the mining and construction equipment industry holding sales and management positions with Arnold Machinery Co. in Idaho Falls, Idaho and Salt Lake City and Rocky Mountain Machinery Co. in Salt Lake City. Most of Bob's happiest moments involved his family, whether it be entertaining at family cook-outs, fishing and camping with his kids, or volunteering to coach Youth Soccer which he did for many years. After retiring, Bob eagerly looked forward to his Wednesday and Friday golf matches with golf buddies. He also enjoyed the occasional weekend golf games with his son, daughter, and son-in-law. A day spent fly fishing on the Provo, Weber, or North Fork of the Duchesne with his son was a day he considered very special. A recent passion of Bob's was exploring the beautiful splendor of Utah's red rock country. He also enjoyed traveling. His favorite places to go were the Oregon coast, northern California, and New York City. Bob had a loyalty and love for all animals especially his "Labweiler" Hannah. Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years Joan, a daughter Katharine Byerline Thayer (Brett), a son Rob Byerline (Diana) and a grandson Logan Byerline. He is also survived by sisters Joan Egly (Max) and Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Barlow (Phil). He was close to his many brothers-in law, sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob always felt fortunate that his entire family was close and loving. The family would like to thank First Choice Hospice, especially Mindi, Ann, Amy, and Judith. They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Utah Cancer Specialists especially Drs. Chandramouli, Miller, and Avizonis. As per Bob's wishes, a celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later announced date and will be preceded by a private cremation service. In lieu of flowers, Bob requests that donations be sent to No More Homeless Pets of Utah or a pet welfare institution of your choice.
