On January 21, Boyd A Smith quietly slipped away from us to be with beloved wife, Ruth--who he missed greatly. Born November 8, 1931 in Salt Lake City. Son of Clarence Tuttle Smith and Verda Heiner: great grandson of Samuel H Smith and Mary Bailey. At 16, a motorcycle accident nearly took his life and left him with pain that he quietly endured for nearly 50 years. It was during the summer of his sophomore year at South High that he met his sweetheart, Ruth Mary Wesemann. Their first date to a school play, was eight days before his sixteenth birthday. With no license, he boldly asked his father, a police officer, for permission to take the family car. He said okay! Their love deepened and in September of 1952, they married in the Salt Lake Temple and enjoyed a long, happy life together. A lifelong educator, he studied at University of Utah; Humboldt State, California; Cal Berkeley; Oregon State; Northern Michigan; University of California, Riverside. He taught biology and counseled at Covina High School in California for nearly 40 years and touched the lives of any who knew hima"most of all his children and grandchildren! Active in the LDS Church throughout his life, he blessed his family with a rich pioneer heritage. Preceded in death by his wife Ruth, and his two brothers, Keith and Rex, Boyd is survived by his children and grandchildren, Mark and his kids: Laura, Michelle, Jonathon, Amy & step-daughter Christina, and their mother Robyn; Karen and Mark Dell and their boys: Aaron & Adam (of Bountiful, UT); and David and Kathleen Smith and their children: Ian, Emily & Abigail (of Beaumont, TX); his brother Gary, wife Lucien & family (of Sandy, UT); and many others who considered him their father, grandfather, teacher, mentor, and example. We deeply appreciate all the fasting, thoughts, and prayers that sustained our father during the last days of his life. We are touched by such demonstrations of love and faith.
