Carl Ardell Latham

Carl Ardell Latham
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Carl Ardell Latham, 91, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born February 11, 1921 in Rock Lake, North Dakota to Glenn Hamilton and Carrie Mae Clouse Latham. He married his sweetheart, Jean Atkinson Latham on May 2, 1942 at "Wee Kirk O' The Heather" in Glendale, California. He and Jean were later sealed in the Los Angeles (LDS) Temple.
After graduating from high school, Carl joined the National Guard and later served in the U. S. Navy Submarine Corp during World War II. He spent his life's career with the Los Angeles Fire Department. He also worked as a heating and air conditioning contractor as well as serving as a teacher's aide for special needs children. Carl was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he held many leadership and teaching positions.
Carl was a sportsman. He was a fisherman, hunter and an avid golfer - proud of his 3 holes-in-one. Most of all, he loved his family - a loving husband, great father and grandfather, a fun-loving brother, devoted son and beloved uncle.
Carl is survived by his wife Jean and his children: Pamela (Chris) Thompson, West Linn, Oregon; Duffy (Kassie) Latham, Spanish Fork, Utah; Kimberly (Richard) Trimble, Spanish Fork, Utah; Darlene (Don) Clifford, Mesa, Arizona; David (Deborah) Latham, Meridian, Idaho and foster daughter Tracie (Adam) Robbins, Palmdale California. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren (two more on the way), sisters Kathleen Cracker and Elma Mae Farley, brother Al (Willie) Latham and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the West Hills LDS Ward, 7045 Farralone Avenue in Canoga Park, California. A viewing will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. where friends and family may call. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, California.
The family offers a special thank you to his devoted niece Valerie Lunt, Desert Gardens Hospice Care and Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, Arizona and to all of the doctors and nurses who took such good care of him.
