Carol Ann Busby

Carol Ann Busby 1934 -2011
Our family sweetheart passed away December 13, 2011 at home surrounded by family and friends after her long courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). She was born August 4, 1934 in Salt Lake City Utah to Sidney Hooper and Eleanor Susanna Keep Busby. Carol grew up in Salt Lake City as the youngest of her family and was often called 'the little brother'. She was a tomboy from the start, following her big brother around. She graduated from East High School. She was a beautiful young lady. Her career was with the Salt Lake Credit Bureau/TRW where she made many friends. After retirement, Carol enjoyed working in the LDS Hospital greenhouse. She loved working with the plants from the seeds and cuttings to the plantings in the landscape. She was a great gardener. She was a life long active member of the LDS Church where she held many positions throughout her life. She loved the outdoors, old cars, animals, crocheting, knitting, gardening and most of all helping her many friends and family. Carol was the primary caregiver to her mother after losing her father at an early age. Carol was the glue that kept the family together. It was Carol who always kept in contact with all the nieces, nephews, the great and great-great nieces and nephews. Carol never married or had children of her own. Through her love and connections with all her nieces and nephews it was as if she had more children than most mothers could ever have. Carol was generous, kind and had an enormous sense of humor. She always made everyone smile with all her jokes and was always the life of the party. It wasn't your birthday until Carol sang her famous 'merry happy happy birthday' song to you. It was unbelievable. She brought joy into all of our hearts. Her cute little dog, Hubie, was the love of her life. Carol called him her 'Little Man'. Thanks so much to all the great neighbors who helped take care of Hubie during her illness. Carol so much appreciated all the friends, neighbors, nurses, and family who stepped up and cared for her day in and day out during her long illness. Many thanks go to all those wonderful people, and to the staff at Summit Hospice for their loving care in her last days. Words cannot express how much Carol will be missed. We are all so grateful to have had the opportunity to have known and loved her. She is survived by her brother, Sidney Ralph Busby (Barbara) and nieces and nephews, Cydnee Fullmer, Susan Rogalski (Robert), Dennis Weeks (Pam), Jeanine Dyett (Jerry), David Weeks, Cheryl Nielsen (Floyd), Mark Johnson (Annette), Brent Johnson, Lori Dickson-Smith (Ron), Vicki Oldmen (Tom), Laurie Victor, and Bart Victor (Jennifer). Carol also had many great and great-great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Eleanor Weeks (Leon), Leone Johnson (Ted), and Dorothy Victor (Glen), niece Charlotte Gifford (Ron), and nephew Jeffrey Busby. Funeral services will be held at noon, Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Mountain View 3rd Ward, 1889 South 1700 East, Salt lake City, Utah. Friends and family may visit Tuesday morning at the Mountain View 3rd Ward, between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. . Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Carol would be grateful for donations to the ALS Association of Utah at www.strikeoutalsut.com or the Human Society of Utah at www.utahhumane.org..
