Carol Ann Goodson

Carol was born in Denver, CO. to Charles and Rita Goodson, growing up in a happy family with seven siblings. Carol attended Denver South High School where she developed an interest and talent in music, which ended up being a lifetime passion and profession.

Carol graduated from Brigham Young University where she studied education. Her first job was as a music teacher in Santa Maria California. After moving to Arizona she taught for several years in the Mesa Arizona public schools.  Her passion was teaching and leading choirs. Outside of the school system she had her own choir for children called The Moppets.

She obtained a Masters degree from Northern Arizona University and a doctorate in Music Education from the University of Utah.

After moving from Arizona to Utah she worked as the Fine Arts Education Specialist for the Utah Department of Education and traveled throughout the state to facilitate art education including music, dance, and art. She was a strong proponent for funding of the arts in Utah schools. Carol was inducted into the Utah Music Educators Association’s Hall of Fame  for 2015/16, the organization’s highest honor and notably the first time this award was given to a woman.

Carol had a lifelong devotion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She served a Spanish-speaking mission in the Washington DC area, and was always busy serving in various positions of leadership and service.

With her interest in family history and genealogy, Carol was a link to relatives living in other states. Carol was the communication hub for the family. She updated family directories and regularly hosted gatherings of nieces and nephews at her home.

We will miss Carol’s enthusiasm for our family and we know her many friends in music and church communities will miss her knowledge, kindness, support and service.

Carol is survived by sisters Charlene, Virginia and Kay and brothers Grant, Ray, Fred and Dan.

Memorial services will be in Salt Lake City and announced at a later date.
