Carol N Peterson 1923 to 2011
Carol N Peterson, 87, of Draper, Utah passed away, Thursday, September 1, 2011. She was born in Ephraim, Utah, September 21, 1923 to Abner J. Anderson and Caroline Morley Anderson.
As an infant Carol was bright, energetic with a somewhat mischievous glint in her eye. Those traits continued throughout her life. In Ephraim her childhood was simple where kids made little wooden boats that floated down the irrigation ditches, played "kick the can" and even dug a "swimming pool" (mud hole) in the far end of her back yard.
Carol attended Ephraim schools. As president of her senior class and under the guidance of their Social Science teacher the entire class started a community project. With pick axes and shovels in hand, they dug up the weed-ridden park way along Main Street. Plumbers and other citizens were solicited to donate expertise and supplies in helping create a beautiful grassy, "sprinkled" parkway. Had Carol in some measure made amends for that long ago "swimming pool" disaster in Dr. Anderson's back yard? While attended Snow College, she clerked at the Ephraim Post Office. Salary was $10.00 a week. The pay was bad but the perks were great as she smiled and flirted with the boys from Snow as they bought stamps and picked up their mail.
Carol's first venture into uncharted territory (uncharted for her anyway) was what seemed a dream job at Victorville Army Flying School, California. She and her sister Lois lived together while Lois' husband was on BIVOWAK. Shortly after about 30 days and quite a few pounds heavier, she was on a bus back to her safe haven in Ephraim.
Now slimmer and more content, she got a job as Deputy County Treasurer of Sanpete County. Later on she was accepted into the Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing. After a year and one half of training, her nursing school came to a halt. Her fiancé©, Wesley Peterson, returned from World War II where he was in a German POW Camp.
Carol and Wesley were married and moved to Fort Collins, CO. where he studied Veterinary Medicine and Carol got an office job at Dairy Gold Creamery. She later elevated her status to Deputy County Treasurer of Larimer County. No ice cream there to stem those cravings.
After Wes' graduation, Carol assisted him in his veterinary practices in Utah and California while working in real estate as well. Two children, David and Caroline were the center of their lives. Wes and Carol adored their grandchildren. In the mix of all that activity, Carol played the piano, tennis, golf, and served some church callings and enjoyed adult education classes.
In 1978, Carol's very dear Wesley passed away at age 55. She returned to Utah where she joined up with old Ephraim friends and California returnees for monthly get-togethers. 1988 brought her into a marriage with Perry Christensen that failed some years later.
Carol had a sharp sense of humour, a hearty laugh and liked telling funny stories, especially those involving her personally. One example was her enrolment in an art history class offered by the U of U. Not having been in school in some years, she also signed up for a community college memory class. Art history she passed with flying colors, but forgot to attend memory class!!!
Carol is survived by her daughter; Caroline (Craig) Norton and son; David (Michelle) Peterson. A sister; Lois Clark, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; Wesley P Peterson, DVM, her parents, and a brother; Drew Anderson and a sister; Ruth Hansen.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in the American Fork City Cemetery (26 West 600 North, American Fork, Utah) at 12:00 noon.
