Charlene Wood Wade, 76, passed away peacefully February 19, 2011 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born January 31, 1935 in Ogden, Utah to William Drew Wood and Lucille Irene Simmons Wood. She was the third child in a family of 7 children. She grew up in Ogden, Utah and loved the years when they lived in Ogden Canyon. She had a great love of the outdoors.
She graduated from Odgen High School and Weber State College, majoring in Special Education. She married Wesley Claude Wade on September 1, 1956, and they had three children: Wesley Cole (Kathy) of San Mateo, California; Joi Jean Allerton (Sam) of Wentzville, Missouri; and Tirzah Shirley (Marion) of Orem, Utah. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and one great-grandson, who have brought her endless joy. It was a sweet delight to be "Grammie."
She was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings. While living in the San Francisco Bay Area, she served as Stake Primary President of the Pacifica Stake. During this time she was instrumental in setting up the Cub Scouts for the wards in the San Mateo Scout Council. She was also the first woman to have completed the Boy Scout Training program in the San Mateo Scout Council. She served a 3-year mission at the Timpanogos Seminary with her husband, as well as another mission with the Utah Valley Stake Institute Program.
She tended many handicapped children in her home while her own children were small. She then worked for many years in California for Merrill Higham, CPA. After moving back to Utah she was a medical office manager for Dr. Robert Hales and then Dr. Paul Olson.
Charlene leaves behind many friends and family members who love and admire her very much. She left a legacy of faith, hope, and charity. Those who knew her well will carry with them the blessings of her genuine love and Christ-like example.
