Cindy Ann (Stokes) Stamm

July 29, 1956 — February 14, 2025

Taylorsville, Utah

Cindy Ann (Stokes) Stamm, 68, of Taylorsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of February 14, 2025, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her loving family—her husband of 49 ½ years, two sons, granddaughter, and a longtime family friend.

Born on July 29, 1956, in Burley, Idaho, Cindy was the daughter of Shirley Carter. She graduated from Minico High School in Rupert, Idaho, in 1974.

On August 16, 1975, she married Kenneth Stamm at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Rupert, Idaho. After their wedding, they moved to Pocatello, Idaho, for a year before settling in the Salt Lake City area, where they spent the next 49 years raising their two sons.

Cindy worked for many years in the land title business before later joining the Utah State Tax Commission. Her passion for crafts, including sewing, quilting, embroidery, wool projects led her to work (more for fun and socializing) at Quilts Etc. / The Handmaiden in Sandy, Utah, where she also taught classes.

Cindy loved traveling with friends and family, exploring both the U.S. and the world. She embarked on numerous cruises, visiting destinations such as Alaska, Panama, Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, American Samoa, Tahiti, the Mediterranean, the Rhine River, and her favorite—the Caribbean. She traveled extensively across Europe, from France to Romania, Germany to Italy, and all the way to Greece and Turkey. She also enjoyed trips to Mexico, Ireland, London, Venezuela, Colombia, and more.

Scuba diving was another of Cindy’s passions, which she shared with her cousin Holly (Craig) Weaver. Their dive adventures took them to Cozumel, Belize, Fiji, and the Eastern Caribbean, where they sailed aboard a tall-masted ship from St. Kitts/Nevis to Grenada, stopping at small ports inaccessible to larger vessels.

Her final major journey, in 2019, was a three-week trip through China with friends, following a unique itinerary that included planes, high-speed trains, buses, riverboats, and canoes. She loved visiting remote areas where many locals had never met an American, and she cherished the connections she made along the way.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Kenneth Stamm (Taylorsville, UT); her sons, Chris (Monica) Stamm (Holladay, UT) and Mike (Allison Russell) Stamm (West Jordan, UT); and her grandchildren, Alanna Stamm (Corey Nelson) and Miles Stamm. She is also survived by her mother, Shirley Carter (Heyburn, ID); her brothers, Rick Carter (Twin Falls, ID) and Garry Carter (Tualatin, OR); and her sister, Patricia Docksteader (Heyburn, ID).

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ivan and Leola Stokes (Rupert, ID).

No formal services are planned, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cindy’s name to the American Cancer Society.
