In Loving Memory of a Remarkable Woman Cobette “Coby” Brooke Alexander July 24, 1952 – February 20, 2025
Coby passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 20, 2025, at Jordan Valley Hospital. Her departure, far too soon, leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born on July 24, 1952, in Utah, Coby exhibited a fierce sense of individuality and compassion from an early age. Raised in the vibrant Salt Lake Valley, she embraced the unique challenges and meaningful experiences of her community. She graduated from Olympus High School in 1970. She enjoyed music and attended her first concert at the age of 15 when Janis Joplin performed in July 1968, at Lagoon Amusement Park.
Coby married Ronald V. LeMmon in June 1972, and together they had one daughter, Wendy. They later divorced. Coby also loved her two stepchildren, Nick and April, whom she helped care for from 1984 to 1995. She met her life partner, Rick, in the summer of 1996.
Coby was a woman of delightful contradictions— funny yet sentimental, fiercely independent yet deeply empathetic. She never wavered in her resolve to live life on her own terms, carving out a unique path with a fearless challenge of authority, yet always open to listening to others. Her resolved nature was balanced by an open heart and a willingness to listen, always ready to embrace another perspective. This rare blend of determination and receptiveness made her not only a trailblazer but also a cherished confidante and friend.
Coby’s presence was felt in every aspect of her being. Outgoing and intentional, she was as comfortable hosting a lively gathering as she was providing a warm meal, a ride to an appointment, or a safe place for someone in need—she never turned away those who required her support. Her remarkable ability to read a room and understand people was legendary—a gift that endeared her to a wide circle of friends and loved ones.
Today, as we remember her infectious laughter, her insightful nature, and her unyielding zest for life, we hold dear the lessons she imparted: to live authentically, to cherish meaningful relationships, and to always dance to the beat of one’s own drum. Although her time with us was far too brief, her legacy of warmth, wisdom, and genuine kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
Coby’s nurturing spirit extended beyond people to animals as well; she lovingly cared for her cherished companions Jinxy, Roxie, Buster, Sisi Lala, and Baby Dog. Among her many life mottos was the simple yet earnest advice to “drink more water,” a reminder that even the smallest habits could make a big difference in one’s well-being. Earlier in life Coby was an avid reader with a fondness for Stephen King’s works.
Rest in peace, dear mom, partner, confidant, and friend. Your journey may have ended, but your light will continue to guide and inspire us every day.
Family and Survivors: Coby is lovingly remembered by her devoted life partner, Ricky J. Hatch; her daughter, Wendy D. Gibson (LeMmon); her granddaughter, Alta G.; and her brother, Peter M. Alexander. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends whose lives she enriched with her warmth and generosity. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth P. Alexander and Dawna LaVon Alexander (Downing), and her brothers, Scott K. Alexander and Theron D. Alexander.
Acknowledgements and Service The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Holy Cross Jordan Valley Hospital, who provided compassionate care to Coby and her loved ones during her final 18 days.
A celebration of Coby’s life will be held on Sunday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m. at The Space, 6333 S Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah 84121. Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by her kind spirit are invited to join in honoring her remarkable legacy.
