Connie Diane Smith, 65, passed away Friday April 2, 2010, at home in Pleasant Grove, Utah, from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She was born January 16, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, to parents Lola May (Vandermark) and Sidney Vick.
She married John W. Wiedemeier, on November 24, 1962, in El Centro, California. They were married 12 years. They had three children, one son and two daughters.
Connie married Stephen T. Smith on June 27, 1981. They have two children, a daughter and son together; and mothered seven step children with him, three daughters and four sons.
Connie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings. Connie was a vibrant woman that loved life. In her 20's, she earned her private pilot license in Guam flying a Cessna plane. She enjoyed the fine arts, home and interior design, entertaining and holiday festivities, golfing, classical music, and had an extraordinarily beautiful whistle. She was a devoted mother. She was a very independent woman and worked for a few years in the late 1970's for the Oakland Athletics Major League Baseball Team in Oakland, California. She had a great sense of humor and her laugh will not be forgotten.
Connie is survived by her husband Stephen Smith; Children John Wiedemeier, Deanna (Wiedemeier) Larsen, Diane (Wiedemeier) Misenheimer, Vanessa (Smith) Buetts, Michael Smith, Julie (Smith) Daye, Laura Smith, Gordon Smith, Roger Smith, Paul Smith, Vicki (Smith) Hansen, and Bobby Smith; 32 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; her mother Lola Cromwell; one sister, Wanda Kwiatt; and three brothers, Gailen Vick, William Vick and James Watt. She was preceded in death by her father Sidney Vick; and her brother Udell Vick.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. at 475 N 700 E at the LDS Ward Building in Pleasant Grove, Utah. The viewing will be on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 at the Ward building prior to the service. Local services are under the direction of SereniCare Funeral Home. Out of state grave side services will take place on Friday April 9, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Los Gatos Memorial Park, 2255 Los Gatos Almaden Rd in San Jose, California.
