Daris Ray Clegg

Richfield, UT - Daris Ray Clegg passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 6, 2010, at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, UT. Daris was born July 6, 1923, in Idaho Falls, ID, to George H. and Elzora Little Clegg. He married Betty Ida Beal on May 27, 1949, in Baker, OR. They enjoyed 61 years together.
Daris served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Mississippi during WWII. He was present for the signing of the Peace Treaty in Tokyo Bay. Daris enjoyed working at a variety of jobs throughout his life, including working for the Forest Service, the Ruby Valley Wildlife Refuge, as a machinist for the Dynapac Rotating Company for 26 years, and the Murray School District for 11 years. Daris lived in Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada before moving in 1954 to Utah. He lived 46 years in Salt Lake City before moving in 1997 to Richfield. Daris loved being in the outdoors, camping, fishing, hiking, and traveling. In his later years he especially loved to vacation in Bandon on the Oregon Coast, to visit Zion National Park, and to share vacations and other special times with his family. Daris did not like "idle hands" and enjoyed a variety of different hobbies to keep his hands busy. He was an active member of the Richfield Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Daris loved living in Richfield and often said he wished he had made that move years earlier.
He is survived by the following: spouse, Betty; daughters, Janice (E. Hugh) Miller of Salt Lake City, and Susan (William H.) Biesele of Salt Lake/St. George; grandchildren, W. Michael Biesele of Salt Lake City, and Sharla (Tracy) Fizer of St. George; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Taylor, and Dylan Fizer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milton; and sister, Velora MacKenzie.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 16, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Richfield Second Ward Chapel, 200 South 655 West, Richfield, UT. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the chapel. Internment will take place immediately following the services in the Richfield City Cemetery with a military honor guard ceremony.
The family wishes to thank all the fine doctors, nurses, and other health care providers in Richfield and St. George who have lovingly and respectfully cared for Daris.
