St George UT, Darrell Keith Stockwell, passed away on May 27, 2012, at his home in St George. He was born October 26, 1934, in Jypsy, West Virginia to Dessie Nie and Bertha Lucille Coulter Stockwell. He married Dell Yvonne (Bonnie) Ellsworth in Seattle, WA, and they were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden, Utah temple. He was raised in Clay County, West Virginia and Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Clay County High School and spent four years in the US Navy aboard the USS Midway. Bonnie & Darrell met in Seattle, WA, on Labor Day 1955, and were married on Halloween that same year. After his discharge from the Navy they moved to West Virginia where he worked at Alloy Chemical Corporation. They later moved to Ogden, UT, and then to St George the last 13 years. He was an accomplished, self-taught guitarist and played with various country western bands in the Ogden/Salt Lake area. He was an active member of the St George 5th Ward where he served mainly in the High Priest Group leadership. He was an avid bowler, earning six gold, two silver and three bronze medals in the Huntsman Senior Games over the years, most of them before he had open-heart surgery and suffered a stroke in July 2009. He was able to overcome the effects of the stroke and continued to play guitar for his own enjoyment and continued bowling. He loved people and they loved him. He was always the first to volunteer for whatever was needed. He is survived by: his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Dale Keith (Tami) Stockwell of Roy, UT, and Cary Kenneth (Cassandra) Stockwell of Provo, UT; two daughters, Debi Kaye (Doyle) Waters of South Weber, UT, and Nancy Lee (Jeffrey) Chugg, Duchesne, UT; eighteen grandchildren; one great-grandson and three great-granddaughters; two brothers, Harrell K (Charlotte) Stockwell of Union, WV, and Jarrell D (Carol) Stockwell of Mooresville, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Utah LDS Ward Chapel, 2620 E. 8200 S., South Weber, UT, a visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 am. A Visitation for Darrell's St. George friends will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the St George 5th Ward chapel 100 S. 400 E., St. George, UT.
