David Grant Woodhouse 1951-2009

David Grant Woodhouse, our wonderful and beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday October 4, 2009 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center due to a heart attack from diabetes complications at the young age of 58.
He was born on April 17, 1951 in Salt Lake City, UT. He is the son of the late Grant Molen Woodhouse and Dawn Stoker Woodhouse.
He married his eternal companion, Dulane Joy Heeren, in the Los Angeles Temple on August 4, 1973. They are the proud parents of five children: April Woodhouse, Tammie (Lisle) Moore in Highland, UT, Jesse (Tiffany) Woodhouse in Provo, UT, Gina (Nate) Christensen in Pleasant Grove, UT, and Wesley Woodhouse.
When he was a young boy, his family moved to Pasadena, CA, and then during his early teenage years, his family moved back to Bountiful, UT. He attended and graduated from Viewmont High School in 1970. He served an LDS mission in both the Hearing and Deaf Programs in the California San Diego/Anaheim Mission from 1970-1972. There he met his eternal companion who was a sister missionary serving a full-time mission for the deaf. When they married, they settled in Logan, UT while David attended Utah State University. A year later, they moved to Orem, UT so David could attend Brigham Young University. He later put off his schooling to help raise his family. He graduated with his AAS Degree from Utah Technical College (now Utah Valley University) in 1986. He worked several different jobs as a CAD Draftsman. His last job was at Evans and Sutherland in SLC, UT from 1989-2003 as a facilities planner. However, due to being laid-off, he returned back to school at Brigham Young University and graduated in 2008 with a BS Degree in Marriage, Family, and Human Development.
He is a member of the Utah Valley Deaf Ward. He has served in the capacity of various positions, including being on the High Council for the stake. He loved the church, his family, and has touched the hearts of many of his family, friends, and those in the deaf community, as well as those in the hearing community.
He was an instructor at the Missionary Training Center and taught ASL and missionary skills to new missionaries (1981-1984). He also taught ASL to students at Utah Technical College (1985-1986). He was a coordinator for Student Special Services for BYU and coordinated interpreter and note taker services for deaf students who were attending the university (1979). He was involved as the director of the BYU Workshop for the Deaf Youth (1982) and also with the Deaf LDS Symposium (1993 and 2005).
He loved to work on model trains, watch John Wayne movies, and vacations with his family... especially to Disneyland. He was a patriot and had a great love for his country and its freedoms. He was also an avid BYU football fan and loved reading, artwork, camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, and studying the gospel. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, including holidays, which were filled with traditions that now carry on with the next generation. He will be greatly missed and is loved by all those who knew and loved him. We love you!
He is survived by his wife Dulane, his children: April, Tammie, Jesse, Gina, and Wesley (and their spouses), his six grandchildren: Elica, Lisle IV, Kason, Carter, Kadri, and Kylie, his mother Dawn Stoker Woodhouse, and his siblings: Shari (Mike) Bunderson, Scott (Brenda) Woodhouse, and Becki Woodhouse Simmons, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Grant Molen Woodhouse.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Utah Valley Deaf Ward located at 835 South 500 West Provo, UT. Viewing will be held at 9:30 AM at the same location. Interment at Orem City Cemetery in Orem, Utah.
