Dean Meredith Abegg

Born to work hard, laugh deep, play pranks, sing, serve often, give much, receive with a grateful heart, and to find his life's work. Dean was the loving son of Isaura Bentley and Elijah Abegg born on May 17, 1920 in Tucson, Arizona. He was the big brother to six siblings; Joseph, Lothaire, Hal, Norma, Myrlon, and Gwen. He grew up and was educated under the hot Arizona Tucson sun. His blood type was red, white, and blue. He found it an honor to serve in the Navy during WWII with three brothers who also served in the military.
After a wonderful romance, he married the love and light of his life, Olie M. Butler. They entered into the promise of "happy ever after" on November 23, 1951. Together they created a lasting expression of their love in the children born to them; Debbie Waters, Cary (Rainbow) Abegg, Leslie Whitman, Melanie (Shawn) Morris, and David who has gone ahead early to greet his father. Their love legacy continues in 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Many of his talents blessed the Flowing Wells School District. As a teacher, he served the children of his community for over 25 years. By the sweat of his brow, he built Hohokum Village Trailer Park and lovingly watched over his tenants.
As a life long disciple and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he was a student of the scriptures. His spiritual education involved many callings including serving as a Bishop of the Binghampton Ward in Tucson, Arizona. His generosity of spirit, quiet appreciation, and sense of humor will be missed. He will long be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and the depths of his soul. We loved him mightily.
Dean slipped away knowingly from this life on July 18, 2008 with Olie's kiss on his forehead. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Edgewood Ward, 3211 North 180 East, Provo. Friends may also visit with the family prior to the funeral services from 10:00-10:45. Interment: Orem City Cemetery.
