Dee Stevens Lang

Dee Stevens Lang - age 87, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Santa Clara, UT on June 6, 2010, "D Day," with his beloved wife Ruth nearby. Dee was born July 29, 1922, to Minnie Deseret Stevens and John Mickelsen Lang in St. George, Utah. Minnie died in childbirth so John took his newborn son and gave him to his oldest son, Parley and Almira Snow Lang to "raise as their own".
Dee attended local schools and at the onset of the World War II joined the Army. When the War was over he returned home and earned his high school diploma. He married Ruth Jones on November 29, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple. Within a few weeks he left to serve a mission for the LDS Church in the New England States. His wife, Ruth, joined him for the last year of his mission. They then lived in St. George for two years where he graduated from Dixie College and earned the proud title, "Daddy" where Linda Almira and Nicholas Dee were born. They then moved to Provo, UT, where Dee graduated from BYU in education. Dee taught elementary school for one year in Lund, NV and one year in Richfield, UT. Deciding that classroom discipline was beyond him, he moved his family to Las Vegas, NV (later to North Las Vegas) where he worked as a Postal Clerk in the North Las Vegas Post Office for 27 years. Their next son, Richard Parley was born. Then, Ruth was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm where a neurosurgeon finally telling Dee brain surgery was required and "everyone I have operated on with this has either died or been paralyzed but you have no recourse, she has to have the surgery". She obviously lived. When it became evident that Ruth was expecting, the doctors demanded she abort the baby, instead she gave birth to Kevin Jay.
Dee and Ruth moved to Santa Clara in 1993 and built a home behind their son, Nick. He loved to work outside and putter in his garden and "orchard", with the grapevines, the fruit trees and building or repairing things. Dee served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as; ward clerk, in the primary, sunday school, high priest group leader, bishopric, and as an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple with his wife. He and Ruth also served a family history mission in Las Vegas and one in the Louisiana, New Orleans Mission. For many years his goal was to do 100 endowments per year in the St George Temple. Dee lived to serve others and could often be found on a neighbor's roof doing repairs. He could fix about anything with a little duct tape and baling wire. Dee is survived by: his wife, Ruth of Santa Clara, and his four children; Linda (Ron) Beard of Las Vegas, NV, Nick (Lois) Lang of Santa Clara, UT, Richard (Marianne) Lang of Las Vegas, NV, and Kevin (Melanni) Lang of Kanosh UT. He was proceeded in death by: his mother who gave him life, his father, a whole bunch of brothers and sisters, esp. Emily Batson and the family who raised him, Parley and Mira and his brothers Eldon, Jeter, and Jay. The family appreciates the kindness of Dr. Kent McDonald, his nurse, Rena, Applegate Home Health and Lin Care and the second mile efforts of their home teacher, Dave Jeppson. In lieu of flowers (no, Ruth will need a few flowers), contributions may be made to the LDS temple building fund. He would also be pleased if you would plant a tree, a grape vine, flower, or a vegetable garden. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 11, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at the Santa Clara 5th ward LDS Chapel 3040 W. Santa Clara Dr. Santa Clara UT. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30 a.m. prior to service. Interment will follow at the Santa Clara city cemetery.
