He was born in Salt Lake City on April 25, 1944 to Donald and Ada Dillingham and was the youngest of 3 boys. He then graduated from West High in 1962 before serving his first mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Australia. After returning home he met and married the love of his life, LaRae, in the Salt Lake Temple in 1967 by his mission president Bruce R. McConkie.

He joined the Utah Air National Guard in 1967 and worked there for 33 years in various roles from a recruiter to base safety manager, requiring a great deal of sacrifice and many nights away from family as he went on work trips all across the world until retiring in 2000. He worked for Centerville City Court, finally retiring after ten years.

Delbert then returned to Melbourne, Australia in 2014 to serve a second mission, but this time he had the distinct privilege of doing so with his beautiful, eternal companion LaRae. Together, they worked to digitize over 580K+ records for the people of Australia, helping to make family history more globally accessible.

Delbert had a quiet, yet strong testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, that when shared, touched every heart. He was a faithful servant in the Church and held many callings which he loved, including Bishop, High Councilman, and various teaching callings.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and is survived by his wife (LaRae), six children Doug (Staci), Paula (Nate), Dennis (Kiley), Steve (Rachelle), Wendy, Tyler (Kim), and ten—soon to be eleven—grandchildren, as well as his brother Carl. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Donny. We know that his reunion with his parents and brother, as well as a herd of family pets, was joyous!

The initial viewing will be held at the LDS Church meetinghouse located at 55 East 350 North in North Salt Lake on Tuesday, July 30, from 6 to 8 pm, and the funeral will be held at the same location on Wednesday, July 31, starting at 11 am with a viewing starting at 9 am.

Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
