DeVern Scott Burbank

The world lost a bit of its light on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, as D. Scott Burbank (Scottie) peacefully passed from this mortal life surrounded by his four daughters. Born on January 30, 1947, in Ogden, UT, to Devern and LaRee Burbank, Scottie grew up in Sunset, UT. He served active duty in the Air Force for 8 years, then went on to work as a civilian at Hill Air Force Base until retiring in 2007.

From his marriage to Sharon Cardinal, he was blessed with three daughters, a son, and a foster daughter—his greatest sources of pride. His joy only deepened with the arrival of his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly. Through his second marriage to Brenda Baxter, Scottie gained three stepchildren, and despite the end of that marriage, he continued to be a loving presence in their lives.

While he often tried to project a tough exterior, his tender, sensitive, and caring heart always shone through. To know Scottie was to experience firsthand his boundless love for family and the outdoors. He wasn’t just passionate about fly fishing, whitewater rafting, camping, and playing games—these activities were how he connected with the people he cared about.  Scottie found both peace and adventure in nature. Rarely without his Dutch ovens, Scottie delighted in preparing delicious meals for loved ones, with his legendary peach cobbler being a particular favorite. He even dabbled in catering with his Dutch ovens, using his culinary talents to bring people together.

After retiring, Scottie embraced the freedom to fully devote himself to what brought him joy, including his love of the Native American culture, history, fishing in his fishing boat, watching reruns of M.A.S.H., and hours spent watching Hallmark movies. He traveled extensively to visit family and friends, always expressing his love through his presence and unwavering support

Though a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and having served in various callings in his earlier years, Scottie’s spiritual focus was on living a life of love and service, regardless of religious involvement. He often remarked that some of the finest people he had ever known had never set foot in a church. His life was a true reflection of that belief and his deeply rooted Christian nature, as he consistently went out of his way to help others, always ensuring those around him felt cared for and supported. If someone needed a hand, Scottie was the first to show up, tools in hand, without a hint of inconvenience.

Scottie’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him, including his daughters Nicole Evans of Phoenix, AZ; Trisha (Mike) Harris of Riverdale, UT; Kammi (Mike) Sutton of Phoenix, AZ; foster daughter Kathy (Kelly) Morrison of Farr West, UT; his 13 grandchildren; 3 bonus grandkids; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 bonus great-grandchildren; his sisters Laurie (Dave) Thompson and Trudi (Dee) Nelson; his stepchildren Kami, Kodi, and Kade Kimber; and many friends near and far. He is now enjoying a long-awaited reunion with those who preceded him in death, particularly his beloved son, Tyler Scott Burbank, and his parents.

Loved ones are invited to share in a celebration of Scottie’s life on October 5th, 2024 from 4:15pm-6:00pm at the Roy City Hope Center. A dutch oven dinner (Scottie’s favorite) will be served. Roy City Hope Center address: 5051 S 2000 W. Roy, UT 84067

A graveside memorial will be held at the Roy Cemetery at 3:00 pm for his family and closest friends.
