Taylorsville, Utah - Don Carylile Newey, 85, died at home, with his family on December 27, 2007. He was born May 31, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to Thomas Leland Newey and Florence May (James). Shortly after birth the family moved to St Joseph, Missouri. In 1939 Don graduated from Benton High School, and joined the Navy. He left the Navy before WWII started, and afterwards he then joined the Army Air Corps and served in Saipan and Guam as a photograph developer. Leaving the service of his country on 1945, he then spent the rest of his life as a finish carpenter until his retirement 1980.
He met Geraldine Isenberg on her 18th birthday in St. Joseph, Mo and they married on January 24, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls, ID Temple, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Don and Geraldine would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary next month.
While living in St. Joseph, Missouri, they raised six children. Janet Gray, his only daughter, preceded him in death on Feb 14, 2007 in Sealy Texas, and Five sons: David Lawrence Newey of Los Angeles, California. Patrick Allan Newey of Spring TX, Stephen Reid Newey, Michael Brent Newey and Mark Douglas Newey all of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Don has 21 grand-children, 17 great- grand children, 1 great-great-grand child and three more babies on the way.
Don is survived by a Brother, Leland Lavell Newey formally of Ogden Utah, now residing with his son in Dwight, Kansas, Don also has four sisters, Helen Figueroa of Hacienda Heights, Ca, Roselind Byington, Marilyn Price of Pocatello Id, and Lazann Ryle of Son Jose, Ca. His brother Ray Huddleston of Ogden preceded him in death in 2000.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan 3, 2008 at the Bennion West Stake Center at 3555 W 5620 S, Taylorsville, Utah 84118. There will be a viewing on Wednesday Jan. 2, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m. and Thursday prior to the funeral from 9 - 9:45 a.m. Burial will take place in the Ogden City Cemetery.
