DONALD A. J. MEYER

Donald A. J. Meyer passed away suddenly from pancreatic cancer on Saturday, February 21, 2009, into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was surrounded by family and friends.
Don was born on the family farm in Palmer, Nebraska, to Herman and Helen Meyer on Christmas Eve, 1920. He attended Zion Lutheran School in Worms, NE. He spent his childhood and youth working on the farm with his parents and siblings.
In 1940, he married Selma (Sam) Meyer. The marriage was blessed with two sons and two daughters. Don and his family moved to Utah in 1943. They were later divorced.
He attended Aeronautics School in Kansas City, MO. He went to work for Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, NY, and then to Moore Field AFB in Mission, TX. In 1943, he transferred to Hill AFB in Utah.
He served in the Navy from 1943-1946. He returned to Utah where he continued his career at Hill AFB, working in the Sheet Metal Shop until his retirement in 1976. He served several tours overseas as a civilian during the Vietnam War.
Don had a zest for life and enjoyed people, dancing, and many sports including snow skiing, waterskiing, tennis, racquetball, and softball.
He married Gwenda (Gwen) Porter on July 3, 1981. Together they began a ministry focused on reaching out to the LDS community by sharing the Word of God as presented in the Bible. Don accepted the Great Commission in Mathew 28:19-20 as his calling in life. He spent the past several years sharing his passion with everyone he met about salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
Don is survived by his children, Ronald C. (Jean) Meyer, Golden, CO.; Brent C. (Pat) Meyer, Conifer, CO.; Vicki M. (David) Berrett, Layton, UT; Margo L. (Jerry) Culwell, Ogden, UT; step-children, Sandra Ward, Everett, WA.; Kent (Jean) Porter, Layton, UT; Gary Porter, Roy, UT; Nancy (Craig) Stagg, Grand Junction, CO., Dennis (Gwyn) Porter, Ogden, UT; twenty-seven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosella Niemoth, Grand Island, NE, and one brother, Melvin (Jo) Meyer, Grand Island, NE. Don was preceded in death by his parents.
Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Heights Baptist Church, 1770 E. 6200 S., Ogden, UT. Friends and family may call at the church prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pregnancy Care Center of Ogden or Summit Chapel, Ogden, UT.
