Doris MarJean Kanady

MarJean Kanady was born Nov. 20, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Walton Boynton and his wife Doris Emma Butler. She was the third child in the family with two older brothers; Charles, who was 10 at the time and Leo who was 8. The brothers were excited to have a baby sister and it was they who gave her the name MarJean, a name she spent a life time correcting others in the spelling. When MarJean was about 2 yrs old the family moved to Sandy to take over Grandpa Butler's farm. Some time between the ages of 3 and 4 she had a bad accident. Running into her bedroom she tripped on a stick horse and hit her head on the floor causing some damage and paralysis of her left arm and leg. This resulted in many operations on her leg and arm. MarJean went to Sandy Elementary School, Mt. Jordan Jr. High School and graduated from Jordan High School. She then went on to Brigham Young University where she earned a bachelor's degree in Communications. She was hired by newspapers to write want ads and advertisements. She next went to California where she studied "Writing for Children" at USC. She began writing children's stories, having one published. She enjoyed writing in her journal, writing poetry, and doing crafts. In California she met Ken and they were married on Sept. 15, 1967, a marriage later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple. They were blessed with one son, Ken Cortez, named after his father and called K.C. In their married life they lived in several places. Ken did logging in Texas and in Colorado. In each place they lived they made good life long friends. Moving back to Sandy, Ken took up cabinet making and finishing. Ken worked for the LDS Church in refinishing furniture. Upon retiring they moved to southern Utah and had property bordering on Zion's Park. They loved living there and were sorry when their health required that they leave. They came to Majestic Meadows in Taylorsville, Utah. Here they lived until the death of MarJean on Oct. 21, 2012. MarJean is survived by her husband, Ken, and her son, KC (Carmen), and grand children, Antonio and Ashleigh Kanady, Sacramento, California, Eduardo Kanady, Sacramento, California, and brothers, Charles (Marge) Boynton, St. George, Utah, and Leo (Elaine) Boynton, Sandy, Utah and nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Thurs. Oct. 25, 2012 at the Taylors Grove Ward, 4845 S. Woodhaven Dr. (1300 West) from 6-8PM. With additional viewing time on Oct. 26 from 10-10:45AM. Funeral services will be at the Taylors Grove Ward at 11AM, Oct. 26, 2012. Burial will be in the Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S. in Sandy. The family expresses a special thanks to those who have been so kind and thoughtful during this difficult time.
