Dorothy Marie Shappee Allen died August 31, 2006, at age 91 at her daughter Adrienne's home in Springville, Utah. Born on January 21, 1915 in Wendell, Idaho, to Charlie and Ethel Kersey Shappee, she was the oldest of six children reared in the Magic Valley. Dorothy graduated first in her high school class. She married Adrian Allen in the middle of the depression, and was always proud that every one of their seven children graduated from college. Their marriage endured over sixty years.
A hardworking homemaker and expert seamstress, she went back to school and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse credential. Dorothy worked at hospitals in Jerome and later Idaho Falls, Idaho. She and Adrian worked for several years at MacDonald's in Idaho Falls after their "retirements."
Preceded in death by her husband in 1998, she is survived by her seven children; Jerald W Allen (Janice), Scotia, N.Y.; Calvard Allen, St. George, Ut.; Adrienne Morris, Springville, Ut.; Wilbur A. Allen (Rae Nell), St. George; Val J. Allen, Springville; Elizabeth V. Allen, Kenai, Ak.; and Deborah G. Soltan (Ferrell), Van Nuys, Ca.; a brother William Shappee, Hagerman, Id.; a sister Jessy Springer, Jerome, Id.; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.
A graveside memorial will be held at the Ammon Cemetery in Ammon, Idaho on Wednesday, September 6 at 2:00.
