Dorothy Inez Maxwell Coleman December 4, 1917 - November 11, 2010 Dorothy Inez Coleman, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose life was defined by a deep love for and commitment to her faith, family, and friends passed away from natural causes at her apartment in Beehive Homes in Washington, Utah on the 11th of November 2010.
Dorothy, the third child of Mikuel Berry Maxwell and Florence Massey Maxwell was born on the 4th of December 1917 in Richland Springs, Texas. She had five brothers, Ewell Maxwell, Chester Maxwell, M.B. Maxwell, Jr., Fowden Maxwell, and Doyle Maxwell and two sisters Ila Mae Maxwell Dunning and Tylene Maxwell Schneider. All have preceded her in death except three brothers, M.B., Fowden and Doyle Maxwell. She graduated from High School in Big Spring, Texas where she met her future husband Deck Coleman. They were married on the 29th of November 1935. They are the parents of Billy Max Coleman and Gary Dean Coleman. She was preceded in death by her husband Deck and son Gary. She has 6 grandchildren, Stephanie Coleman Jemmett, Carolyn Coleman Garrett, Melissa Coleman Graehl-Pettit, Gary Coleman, Jr., Shannon Coleman Zarris, and Max Coleman; 12 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy lived many years in the Big Spring area. She and her husband had a Country Store at Vincent, Texas for several years and then a cotton farm at Luther, Texas for several more years. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebecca Lodge. For many years she was a sustaining member of the Luther Bethel Baptist Church until it was disbanded. A few years after the death of her husband, she moved to University Place in Abilene, Texas. There she met Charles Stephens and had many happy times with him until his death. This made her another extended family of his daughters, Peggy Day and Martha Donnell. While she was in Abilene, she became active in the Church of Christ Church with Charles and her brothers. For the last three years, she has lived in Washington, Utah to be near her son. There she returned to the Baptist Church where she attended the Grace Baptist Church.
A viewing and memorial was held for family and friends on the 20th of November in Big Spring, Texas and Dorothy was buried with her husband at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. An additional memorial celebration of her life will be held in Washington, Utah at the Grace Baptist Church for her friends and family in Utah on the 11th of December at 4 PM.
