Duane Lee Calder, 44, Passed away June 10, 2008 after a determined, 3 ½ year battle with brain cancer.
Born November 30, 1963, the youngest of five, Duane seemed to hit the ground running at turbo speed. Excelling in track and field, he graduated from Orem High in 1982, then served a mission in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Seven years later, he met the love of his life, "gazed into her eyes", and they were married in the Provo Temple on February 14, 1992.
An avid Cougar fan with a hereditary competitive streak, Duane loved sports, especially basketball and football. His favorite activities included hitting a round of golf with his dad and brothers and watching his girls play ball... it didn't matter what kind.
Duane also loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and rafting down the Green River. He worked hard, but he played hard to and as the only guy in a house full of girls, had the reputation of champion tease and "tickle monster."
Even as a child, Duane always wanted to do what was right. He had a strong testimony, and served in a variety of church callings, and was aware of the needs of those around him. He set a powerful example of faithfulness and commitment. His willingness to serve has been returned to the Calder's ten-fold by friends, neighbors, family, and Macey's co-workers who have supported and helped over the past few years. We express our sincere gratitude for these many acts of kindness.
Duane is survived by his wife (Kristin Bezzant Calder), daughters (Nicole, Ashley, Karly, and Katelyn), his mother (Shirley Erickson Calder), sisters (Debra Wimmer and Diane Rudd), and brothers (Eric and Dale). He is preceded in death by his father, David G. Calder.
