Duane Rivers Jack Schow

Duane Rivers (Jack) Schow passed away at 5:45 pm July 31,2012 in his Sandy home surrounded by his family. Jack was born Aug. 7, 1936 to Eugene and Irene Schow in Lovell, Wyoming. He graduated from Davis High School and went on to attend Weber State and Utah State University where he graduated with a major in Manufacturing Engineering. Jack went on to graduate school at BYU and earned his Masters Degree. Jack served an LDS mission in Olso, Norway, the country that would become his second home. His service in Norway eventually led to him meeting Liv Johansen after his mission, whom he married in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 30th, 1960. He was later able to serve a 2nd mission in Norway with Liv after their children were raised. Together they had 8 children. 7 boys and 1 girl. Several of their children served missions in Norway as well, with others serving throughout the world. Jack was known for his kind commitment to all he met and his firm dedication to his Lord and Savior. He served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a missionary, branch president, High Priest Group Leader, Home Teacher, and several other callings that he served with his whole heart. Professionally Jack was an excellent engineer and was respected in his field. Jack worked as an engineer at multiple companies including Tannberg, BYU, American Arms, Sorenson Industries and others. His longest professional commitment was to working as an engineer consulant. His engineering designs are used world wide in industrial manufacturing applications, as well as in the LDS Temples. Personally Jack built lifelong friendships world wide. His friends often commented on his giving and understanding nature. He was quick to forgive and a very devoted friend. His highest commitment was to his family, whom he prioritized his entire life. He parented his children in an environment of love and through example. He always demonstrated a commitment to his wife by honering Liv and setting a standard of respect and love through his example of day to day living. Jack was preceeded in death by his parents and siblings, his son Derek, and his daughter-in-law Brenda. He is survived by his wife, Liv, and his children and their spouses Jan-Erik and Jenny, Einar and Julie, Lyle and Stephanie, Mark and Saunya, David and Rebecca, Lynnette and Rod Savage, and Geir and Alece Schow, and 25 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 4th at 12:00pm at the LDS stake center 11570 S. Wasatch Blvd.Sandy, 84092. A viewing will be held from 10am prior to the services.
