Earl Robinson

Born with the soul of a poet, his words painted images for all to see. Earl's recent years were spent in valiant service to his Heavenly Father as Executive Secretary of the Brighton Gardens Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Earl was especially conscientious in keeping track of the records of the many residents who moved into and out of the branch. "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father... Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." - Matthew 10:29-31. Earl was an avid reader who studied calculus, electronics, and many other advanced topics. He had an amazing capacity for memorizing and quoting all kinds of literature. Earl served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Survived by father Claud and sister Robyn of Anchorage, Alaska and sister Carla of Kailua, Hawaii; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Earl's sister Carla wrote the following tribute to her brother, which was read at his funeral: I want to thank you for coming - for caring about my brother.
Earl is my older brother and my friend. He is such a great older brother that I am convinced that in the perfect family all sisters have an older brother. We used to say we made a pact in heaven to always look out for each other - to always be there for each other. And Earl always kept his promise.
Earl is a private person with thoughts and feelings that run deep. He has a gift with words that can paint images and ideas in your mind. At one time there was a passion for photography and he captured some amazing pictures.
Earl was always a wanderer - while we were growing up we never took vacations, instead the family moved to and lived in various places. a€¢ There was the small town in southern Utah where our mother and father were the teachers in a two-room schoolhouse - Earl learned to fish, with rainbow trout the prize. a€¢ We lived on the island of Guam for several years... ... ..Earl learned to scuba and collected an amazing variety of shells and corals. a€¢ On the way to Florida, we stopped off in Salt Lake City and ended up staying in Utah for a couple of years - there are memories of summer days when Earl and I walked from the avenues to the downtown public library - Earl has a passion for books. a€¢ Next we moved to Alaska - it was still a bit of a frontier in the early 1960s, with boardwalks (just like in the old western movies), moose for neighbors and raw beauty that took your breath away.
After graduating from East High School in Anchorage, Earl enlisted in the Navy where he received training in electronics and communications. He was stationed in northern and southern California - served in Vietnam - and finally while based in Florida was assigned to the Mediterranean.
When younger, Earl was fascinated by Greek and Roman heroic tales and myths, and he dreamed of seeing Italy and Greece. He was able to see both, with Greece winning his heart. He said Greece exceeded all of his expectations!
After the military, Earl continued to roam - working in remote defense sites in Alaska for a time... ... .taking some college classes in Salt Lake City. He was a rolling stone for a number of years, wandering wherever the road took him.
I believe my dear brother spent his life trying to find "home." Over the years he discovered the truth of the gospel in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - he settled in Salt Lake City and made a place for himself.
You have accepted Earl, my dear big brother. You accepted and appreciated his service, his dedication and his loyalty. As his brothers and sisters in the gospel, you helped him find home. I cannot thank you enough.
And now he is with our mother - in a place where they are both healed and whole at last. I can almost hear their friendly banter.
Mahalo & thank you for caring about my brother. Carla
Earl's funeral service will be held Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake City LDS 13th Ward Chapel, (630 East 100 South). Burial will be in the Utah Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah.
