Eathel Lasson Winkelman celebrated her 95th birthday with family and friends on the 14th before returning to her Heavenly Father, on July 17, 2007, passing away peacefully at home. She was born July 12, 1912 in Fairview, Utah to Edgar Ole Lasson and Matilda Elizabeth Young Lasson. Ole died of an accident when she was 3. Her mother later married Arthur Lasson. She graduated from North Sanpete HS and Quish Beauty College in SLC. Eathel worked in Cosmetology for 35 years owning 4 beauty salons in southern CA. She earned much recognition over the years.
She married Jay William Winkelman, of Mt. Pleasant, Ut, on November 22, 1934, while he was attending Duke University School of Law. They were later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Eathel was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving in many positions of leadership including 3 Stake and 1 full time mission to Boston, MA. She was an avid reader, ballroom dancer, artist, golfer and organizer, interacting with ladies in cultural clubs. As an original board member of the Fairview Museum she obtained 60 personal histories for the museum. She was an active participant in political and community service.
First and foremost, she was a devoted wife, and loving mother to 3 wonderful children, Arlene (deceased) Newell Tidwell; Arthur (AJ) Linda Winkelman; Pamela (Brent) Rowbotham; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild.
Her example and devotion to her family was evident in all she did. She was a builder of character, encouraging others to see their potential. Eathel was a loving friend to many, and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter and 2 brothers. She is survived by her sister, Beth Seibert.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at the LDS Sunset Heights 5th Ward Chapel, located at 1071 West 600 South, Orem, Ut. A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:30 a.m. that same day.
