Edward Thomas Hughes, JR was born on July 2, 1962 in Westminster, Maryland to Edward Thomas Hughes SR and Particia Lou Shatxer. He left his earthly existence after a fearless battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in his home in Grantsville on January 18th, 2010. Eddy spent his growing up years in Maryland. After graduating from Westminster High school he began his college education at BYU in 1980. From September 1982 to March 1984 he served an LDS mission in the Brazil, Sao Paulo South Mission. On December 28th, 1984 he married Karyn Garza in the Washington D.C. Temple in Kensington Maryland. He graduated from BYU with a BSEE in August, 1992 with a wife and 4 children in tow. He never gave up on any of his life goals. He soon began his career as an electrical engineer at Megahertz Corporation. He worked for several corporations during his life, which included U.S. Robotics, 3 Com, Palm, and Flextronics. He was always a great salesman. Right before his illness he bought Intermountain Technical Sales (ITS). Eddy has had many interests and accomplishments in his life. He loved sports. When he was a young man he was a champion cross country runner as well as a champion ¼ miler and ½ miler. He also lettered in sports and academics. He was always ambitious and trying to perfect himself in life. We are sure he will continue in death. Eddy was very involved throughout the community, especially with his involvement with the youth. He coached basketball and soccer, taught ballroom dance, and took part in many plays. One of his favorites was playing the role of Dr. Craven in The Secret Garden during his first cancer battle. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings, he loved serving others and especially loved sharing the gospel and working with the youth of the church. He was survived by his father, Edward Hughes Sr,(Patti) mother, Patricia Shatzer Leese, (Harold) brother, Anthony Hughes, sisters, Barbara Hughes Redifer, (Will) and Andrea Hughes, numerous other family members, his wife, Karyn Garza, and children, Heather, Meaghan, Christian, Sarah, Kehli, Heidi, Micah, Shannon, and Ethan. Services will be held at the LDS Chapel at 115 East Cherry St. Grantsville. Viewings will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 21st and Friday January 22nd from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. The funeral service will be at 12:00 P.M. followed by the interment at the Grantsville cemetery.
