OBITUARY FOR EDWIN ISAAC TAYLOR Edwin Isaac (Ike) Taylor passed away peacefully after a long illness on April 23,2009 in Orem, Utah.
He was born December 23, 1917 in El Paso, Texas to Edwin A. and Ruby Pierce Taylor.
Ike lived in Mexico in the Mormon Colonies during early childhood. The family moved to El Paso when he was seven years old. However, he went back to the Colonies to attend Juarez Stake Academy for high school. His schooling was interrupted by the death of his father, but he returned later to get his diploma.
He served a mission in Mexico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1939-1942. He entered the service in 1942 during WWII, first serving at Fort Bliss in El Paso. He ended his service at the Panama Canal in 1946.
While attending Brigham Young University he met and married Dorothy Robinson. He graduated from BYU in 1949, and received his teaching degree in 1950.
He taught school in the Alpine School District while also serving on the police force and as a ranger at the Timpanogos Cave during the summers and holidays. The family moved to Lodi, California where Ike continued his teaching, retiring in 1982.
He and his wife served a mission to the Dominican Republic from 1987-1988. After returning from the Dominican Republic he and his wife moved from California to Spanish Fork, Utah.
He was active in his church and served in numerous capacities. He especially loved his work with the Mexican people both in school and church. His love for his family, cousins, and friends remained with him to the end of his life.
He is survived by one son and four daughters: Edwin I. Jr. (Patricia) Taylor, of Scotia, New York; Jackie Annette Black of Eureka; Rebecca (Dale, deceased) Tuttle of Orem; Dorothy Cheryl (Steve) Nickell of Galt, California; Wendy Duke of Yreka, California; 18 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren, one brother, Verl (Marilyn) Taylor of Salt Lake City; one sister Ruby (Rex, deceased) Gourley of Cedar Hills, and many loving in-laws and friends.
A viewing will be held May 2, 2009 in the chapel at 762 East 1200 North in Orem from 9:00-10:30AM. The funeral will follow at 11:00. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
