Eldon Gane Olsen passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. He was born on February 21, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Gane and Annis Ockey Olsen.
Shortly thereafter, he went home to his parents' farm in Beazer, Alberta, Canada where he lived for the next 45 years. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Romeril on June 23, 1949 in the Cardston, Alberta Temple.
At age 45, he took a leap of faith and went to college. He moved his family to Logan, Utah so he could attend USU. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degree in four years and graduated with honors. He won many awards in his job as Agriculture Economist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was very active in the LDS Church where he served in many callings including Bishop, Stake High Council and Branch President. He served on five missions - to Oklahoma, the Blood Indian Reserve in Canada, Raleigh North Carolina, Albuquerque New Mexico and an employment mission in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His testimonies were an inspiration to all who heard them.
He was a wonderful story teller and loved to play with his grandchildren. He loved to dance, act and sing.
He was greeted on the other side by his sweetheart, Elizabeth, his parents, a daughter, Verena, brother Ivan Olsen, three sisters, Vila Gibby, Lucille Harper and Geniel Cameron, grandson Loran Olsen and great-grandson Brian Wise.
He is survived by his sister Emilia (Connell) Roberts, children Charles (Margie) Olsen, Jeannine (Stan) Olsen, Phil Olsen, Diane (Chuck) Lindsey and Davied Olsen; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 3970 South 5200 West, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lake Hills Memorial Cemetery, Sandy, Utah.
