Frances Elaine Halverson

Frances Elaine LaSeur Halverson passed away on August 27, 2010, from congestive heart failure. Frances was born on September 23, 1926, to Fred and Alma LaSeur. She spent her early childhood years in the town of her birthplace, Moorehead, Iowa. Frances loved the years she was able to live there again later in her life. She had a brother, Noel (deceased) and a sister, Anna Jane.

Frances started teaching school at the age of eighteen. She married Oluf Dean Halverson in 1950, and they eventually settled in the Bay Area where they adopted their two children. She received a Master's degree in reading in 1973, and spent many successful years as an elementary and junior high school teacher in San Leandro, California. Frances also worked as a GED teacher in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and as a Head Resident at Chipman Hall at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Frances is survived by her children Tina Halverson and Fred Halverson, her grandchildren Megan Moulton, Maren Moulton Cowan, McCall Andersen, a great-grandson Harrison Cowan, and her sister Anna Jane Urish. She was preceded in death by her husband Dean in 1974, and her brother Noel in 2009.

Frances was a wonderful, loving woman who always gave of herself. She loved her family above everything, and being around them and involved in their lives was what brought her the most joy.

We will also miss her clever wit and sardonic sense of humor, which always made situations more light and fun. Among her many accomplishments she was voted "Most Droll Sense of Humor" by her high school graduating class.

In the last few years of her life, Frances did not let her failing health deter her from being strong and never giving up. Her passion and will to live were greater than most and anyone who knew her well will never forget her candor and endearingly brazen honesty.

Frances was a beloved teacher who touched many lives, and will be missed by the many students and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing her. The memory of her will live on and she will always remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
