Fred Ralf Barnes, 71, of American Fork, died peacefully at his home on June 1, 2006. He was born on December 12, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Fred Patrick Barnes and Jean Woolley. He was educated in Salt Lake and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Utah. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Northern California Mission. He married Sharon Anne Elton in 1960, she later passed away. He married Annette Newman Weenig in 1982. Fred worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and was very successful. While working at the Federal Center in Denver he received a Special Achievement Award in 1990, and others throughout his career. Upon retiring after 31 years, he joined the Firm of Franson- Noble Engineering in American Fork as Senior Engineer and continued working for another nine enjoyable years. He was active in many civic, professional, and religious organizations. He faced life's challenges with dignity, valor, and a kind heart. "His life was gentle- and the elements so mixed in him that nature would stand up and say to all the world that this was a man."- Shakespeare He was a true gentleman. He loved the arts. He loved his work, his associates and friends. He loved the Lord and his family deeply. He was a kind and loving father to his stepchildren as well as his children. He will be remembered forever for his good nature, keen mind, and corny jokes. He is survived by his wife Annette of 24 years, his children Diane, (Bruce) Fagg; Barbara,(Eric) Chesmar; Ralf, (Suzy) Barnes; stepchildren, Chris, (Linda) Weenig , Jill, (Doug) Furness, Karl, (Polly) Weenig, Duane, (Janet) Weenig and twenty-three grandchildren; his sister, Bette Church, brothers Stephen and Carl. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson. He will be greatly missed by his large family and friends. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Drs. Kirk Anderson and Rodney Badger and the Vista Care Hospice Staff, especially Shelly, Burt, Lenny and Chris for their tender care. Our deepest gratitude and love go to our Hillcrest Third Ward Family they've all been angels in our behalf. A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hillcrest LDS 3rd Ward, 1120 North 150 West, American Fork. NOTE: Funeral services will be held at the Hillcrest Stake Center, 165 North 350 West, American Fork at 11:00 a.m. on Monday June 5 with a viewing at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Interment at East Lawn Memorial Hills, 4800 East Lawn Drive, Provo.
