Gary Lee Balliger; 69 of Salt Lake City died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Gary was born October 27, 1939 in Salt Lake City, the son of Leo James Balliger and Evelyn Hazel Aston. He attended schools in Salt Lake City. He served in the United States Marine Corp in 1955. Gary married his childhood sweetheart on April 19, 1955 in Eley, Nevada. He worked as a truck driver transporting long haul for Creat Carrier Company until he became ill. He then drove local transport Ron Smart Trucking and Idaho Freight Lines. He was part owner of Balliger Trucking. Over his time of trucking he received many safety awards. Gary loved fishing and his dog Chelsea and horse Partner. Gary is survived by his wife Jean, and his children; Gary (Bonnie) Balliger, Larry (Laurie) Balliger, Jake Balliger, Ray (Terra) Balliger, Mike (Tina) Balliger, and Joe (Jolene) Royer. He was preceded by his parents and two sisters, Reane DeBona and Sharon Kopps. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pioneer LDS Stake Center, 1145 West 5th South, Salt Lake City with Bishop James Bunker officiating. The family will meet with friends Friday, January 23, 2009 from 6 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Utah Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery.
