Gary Lee Furnish

Gary Lee Furnish, a long time resident of Orange Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2009 after a battle with cancer at his home in Park City, Utah, where he had hoped of one day retiring to. Gary was born on February 14, 1948, in Muncie, Indiana. He graduated from Nathan Bedford Forest High in Jacksonville, Florida in 1966, and proceeded to attend college at Valpariso University. Gary started C. Furnish Industrial Services (CFI) with his father over 40 years ago. CFI provided design and mechanical contracting services to the beverage industry. He took over the management and ownership of CFI after his father passed away in 1985. There were few soft drink plants in the country that Gary did not work in at one time or another ... or at least visit. In 1993, Gary sold his company to DSI Process Systems and joined their team, where he remained for over 15 years until his death. He was a legend in the beverage industry, and enjoyed working until the end. In addition to his career, which he loved, he enjoyed skiing, and loved railroads. Gary became an active member of the Northeast Florida Model Railroad Club, and enjoyed building model trains. He always enjoyed the opportunity to see historic railroads and trains. His father, Claud William Furnish, and his mother, Delores Miriam Vold, preceded him in death. Gary is survived by Patricia Furnish, his wife of 24 years, who he married on October 19, 1985, in Golden, Colardo; his son, Gary William Furnish (Bill), born July 15, 1987; and his sister, Claudia Furnish Coberly. A celebration of life service will be held in Orange Park, Florida, in The River House (2137 Astos Street, Orange Park, Florida) on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah.
