Gaya Xanthos Brady (Age 83)
Gaya Schow Xanthos Brady was born on April 2, 1927 in Escalante, Utah to Lera and Corine Heaps Schow. Her older sister, Cleia was born two years earlier. She spent her entire childhood in Escalante and graduated with honors at Escalante High. She soon followed Cleia up to Salt Lake City where she attended LDS Business College.
In 1947 she married Jim Xanthos and moved to Bingham Canyon. In 1948 Gary was born, in 1951 Neysa and then LeeAnna in 1954. In 1957 the family moved to Copperton where she lived until 1973. Jim and Gaya divorced in 1960, but remained great friends throughout their lives.
In 1974 she married Melvin Brady and moved up to the Wasatch Heights in Salt Lake City where she lived until her death on November 24, 2010 at the age of 83.
Gaya was renowned for her artistry with handwork. Her afghans and tattins (lace making) have repeatedly won blue ribbons and often the grand prize at state and county fairs. She also worked for Kennecott Copper as a keypunch operator for many years.
She adored her children, grand and great grandchildren, and they her. She will be missed for her yearly hand-made quilts that she provided each Christmas.
She is survived by her son's family; Gary (Julia) Xanthos, with grandson; Warren Xanthos, granddaughter daughter; Samantha (Carter) Frandsen and great grandson; Liam Frandsen and granddaughter; Corrine (Anthony) Sudweeks.
Her daughter's family; Neysa Xanthos. Grandson; Jeremy (Ulynn) Jenkins with great grandchildren, Rylee and Macey. Grandson; Jason (Kristie) Jenkins with great grandchildren Levi and Dylan. Granddaughter; Athena (Robert) Walser with great children, Kanyonn and Roman. Grandson; Jonathan Jenkins with great grandchildren Isley and Madison. Granddaughter; Valerie Xanthos and Culby Robinson with great grandchildren Kylan and Ashlan. Grandson; Jim Salter.
Daughter; LeeAnna (Randy) Xanthos-McQueen. Granddaughter; Toni (Andres) Garcia. Great grandson; Ryan. Grandchildren; Michael Coombs and Kent McQueen. She is also survived by her sister Cleia (Richard J.) Barrett.
Friends may visit with the family at the viewing, Friday evening, December 3, 2010 from 6-8PM at the Mount Olympus 7th Ward, 4407 Fortuna Way (approximately 45th So. & 36th E). Funeral services will be on Sat. Dec. 4, 2010 at 11AM at the same location with a viewing prior to the service 9:30-10:30AM. Interment following at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy.
