George Udell Clegg, 79, our beloved father, stepfather, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on December 23rd, 2007. He was born on September 19th, 1928, to Lewis and Reva Jane Stewart Clegg. He was raised on a dairy farm in Vineyard, Utah, the third of six children. He graduated from Lincoln High School and subsequently attended BYU, where he lettered in tennis. He served an LDS Mission to the Western States Mission, serving in McCook, NE and Truth or Consequences, NM. In his mid-twenties, he opened his first Phillips 66 Service Station on State Street in Murray. He then owned the Phillips 66 in Rose Park where he received many awards and was known affectionately as "The Tire Salesman". As a result of his success, he was asked by Conoco Oil Co. to run the Conoco Station located next to Dee's Family Restaurant on North Temple. After retiring from the industry, he owned and operated Fifth South Automotive in Salt Lake City, and then worked for several years for Granite School District before his final retirement in 1993. He married Phyllis Phister on November 6th, 1964, in Elko, NV and immediately assumed the role of stepfather to her five young children. They raised two more daughters of their own before their divorce in 1985. George was very active enjoying hunting in his younger years, fishing, tennis (his life long passion), gardening, walking, bike riding and trips to Wendover. He is survived by his long time dear friend Connie Rodarte and his daughters Tammy Clegg (Todd) Grandstaff and Julie Clegg (George) Guerrero. Stepchildren Danny (Gaylene) Phister, Alan (Deanna) Phister, Lori (Kevin) Park, Sharon (Terry) Poulton and Diane Singleton; grandchildren Meagan, Caitlin and Reva Grandstaff, Samuel Guerrero, many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; brother Darrel Lewis Clegg and sisters Luana (Bill) Fresh, Norma (Darrell) Jenson and Anabel (Don) Savage; sister-in-law Nina Clegg. He was preceded in death by his parents and eldest brother Floyd Wallace Clegg. We will celebrate his life with graveside services to be held 11:00 am, Friday, December 28th, 2007 at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive in Bountiful.
