Gerald 'Gary' Clyde Peck gently passed from this mortal life, surrounded by his wife, Deonne Evans Peck, and family who loved him, on November 26, 2011 in St George, Utah. He lived an active and meaningful life the 82 years he was given on this earth until his body could support him no longer.
Born on December 9, 1928 in Sugar City, Idaho, he was the first son to his parents Mary Blanche Valentine and Franklin Clyde Peck and brother to his four sisters. He spent his childhood on an 80-acre farm in Boise Idaho where the principle of work was planted into his soul. In addition to his daily chores, he worked in the fields during harvest and milked a herd of cows each morning and night. As young as 8 or 9, he awakened in the pre-dawn hours to help with the cows.
At the age of 21 he was called and served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in South Africa. Travel included train rides to Salt Lake City and New York City and then on by ship to England and finally to Capetown, South Africa. A long, faraway journey for a young man from a farm in Idaho.
A highlight of his life was meeting and marrying the 'girl of his dreams', Deonne Evans. After dating a year, they married in the Idaho Falls temple in a double wedding with Ted, his brother and his bride Beverly on June 19, 1953. On their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003, they traveled back to Idaho Falls and attended the temple where they began their life together so many years ago. Their marriage was blessed with 6 children.
After a two-year service in the US Army near Seattle, Washington, the little family moved to Portland, Oregon, which became home to them for many years. He completed BS degree at Portland State University, majoring in Elementary Education. He taught in the Portland Public School System for 25 years.
As a couple they served two missions for The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The first in Detroit Michigan preparing and bringing many families to the Chicago Temple to receive ordnances making it possible for them to become eternal families. The second, in Beaverton Oregon in The Church Employment Center. Together they served in three LDS Temples. Two years in Seattle, Washington, ten years in Portland, Oregon and three years in St George, Utah
He is survived by his wife, Deonne; his six children, Steven Peck, Margo Mumford, Alyson Felt, Shauna Nelson, Martin Peck and Jennifer Reed; 30 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his siblings Faye Thompson, Lapriel Dimick, Nolene Breen and Ted Peck
