Our wonderful father left this life to join his dear wife Lucile and three children who preceded him to the other side. He had a long journey of 97 years plus two weeks here in this mortal life. He was born in Ogden, Utah to Charles Austin Shaw and Mary Elfrida Farley and was the second of five children. He is survived by a younger sister, Charlene, five of his eight children, Glenn K. of Udon Thani, Thailand, Brent S., David M. of Orem, Karren Ackemyer-Aubrey of Fountain Green and Suzanne of Pleasant Grove. His posterity includes 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grand children and 1 great-great-great grandchild.
He married his sweetheart Lucile on January 8, 1931. She passed away on May 10, 1996.
He started his radio career reading the news at KLO in Ogden for no salary. His talents were observed by Earl J. Glade who asked him to audition for a position at KSL in Salt Lake City. He joined KSL in 1932 as an announcer and became the voice of Sego Milk, Holsum Bread, Cloverleaf Dairy and many others. He was the announcer on "The Spoken Word" when Richard L. Evans was out of town. He later became production manager before leaving to become the general manager of Radio Station KLX in Oakland, California. In November of 1942, he was later assistant manager of KCC C-TV in Sacramento, California and then general manager of KDYL in Salt Lake City before buying KOVO in Provo in 1956.
His church service included being Stake Young Men's President, a Bishop, a counselor in three stake presidencies, a high councilor, stake mission president, high priests group leader, home teacher and serving a mission with his wife to the Ft. Lauderdale Florida Mission in 1980. He narrated many church films after moving back to Utah in 1954.
He was well respected in the business world, was a candidate for the state legislature, losing by a very narrow margin, a member of the NAB board of directors, Republican county chairman. He was an announcer for the "Days of 47 Parade", "All Faces West" in Ogden and was the voice of Mormon in the "Hill Cumorah Pageant".
We as a family wish to express our sincere thanks to "Alpine Home Care and Hospice" for their loving care for the last several months. Tara, Luke and Dana have become members of our family and we will be eternally grateful to them.
A viewing will be held on Sunday evening at the Orem North Stake Center, 1000 N. Main St. Orem, Utah on Sunday August 10Th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Stake Center on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior to the service starting at 9:00 a.m. He will be interred at the Aultorest Memorial Park in Ogden, Utah next to his wife Lucille. The family has requested that donations be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund or the Missionary Fund in lieu of flowers.
