Gloria Gay Botts

Gloria G. Botts passed away December 13, 2007. Gloria was born November 29, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN to Ralph E. and Lelia H. Bachman as the youngest of five children. As a child, she loved to golf with her dad and to help her mother serve customers in their tea room. Growing up during the Great Depression, she learned to be frugal, resourceful, and compassionate, lessons which stayed with her throughout her life.
She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority at North Dakota State College, and graduated in 1949 with a BS in Home Economics. On June 9, 1949 Gloria married her college sweetheart, John R. Botts, at the Methodist church in Fargo, ND.
In 1960, Gloria joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The highlight of her life was being sealed for eternity to her husband and children at the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1961. She cheerfully served in many church callings including Relief Society President, Primary President, and Choir Director. She loved to share the gospel and serve in the temple. Her many acts of kindness, love, and friendship will always be remembered and cherished.
Gloria had a passion for art, and was very talented from a young age. She had a beautiful soprano voice, and enjoyed singing in her church choir and in a community singing group. Some of her other favorite pastimes include swimming, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, square-dancing, attending plays, traveling, taking photos, and playing Scrabble.
Gloria's greatest joy in life was to serve her husband and family of nine children as a homemaker. After her children left home, she found happiness in writing letters to her family, which were always filled with words of encouragement and expressions of love. She was generous with her time and enjoyed giving assistance whenever new grandchildren were born. She will be missed dearly by her family and many friends.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Ralph, Virginia, and Richard. Gloria is survived by her husband, John R. Botts, Orem, UT; children: Steven Botts (Heidi), Pleasant Hill, CA; Barbara Botts, Orem, UT; Jean Nelson (Brad), St. George, UT; Linda Keeler (Curt), Crockett, CA; John Botts (Bill Deagle), San Francisco, CA; Rebecca Killian (Scott), American Fork, UT; Wendilyn Stevenson (John), Provo, UT; Tyler Botts, Princeton, NJ; Beth Norton (Brad), Yorba Linda, CA; and brother, Clyde Bachman (Elizabeth), Olympia, WA. She also leaves behind 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, December 20th, 11am at the Orem 1st Ward Chapel, 80 South 280 East, Orem, UT, with a viewing prior to services 10-10:45am. An evening viewing will be held Wednesday, December 19th, 6-8pm at the same location. Interment will be in the American Fork Cemetery, 600 N. Center St., American Fork, UT.
