A few days after celebrating her 91st birthday, Goldie Viola Roxey Swenson of Orem died September 3, 2006 at Golden Living Care Center. She was born August 25, 1915 in Greenwood, South Dakota to Michael and Marie Belch.
Her mother, Marie was a divorced parent and while working in Idaho, she and Goldie joined the LDS church. As a young woman, Goldie worked summers as a waitress in the Tetons. It was there that she met her husband, Vane Swenson. They were married April 14, 1940 in Dillon, Montana. They made their home in Bremerton, Washington during the war years during which time their two daughters were born. After the war, the family moved to Montana and eventually bought a business in Sidney. Goldie took courses in cosmetology and business. She worked for 25 years as a financial clerk investing funds for two cities in Montana. Goldie spent many hours driving her daughters long distances to concerts, music festivals and church activities. She and her husband raised their children with a strong work ethic. Goldie was an avid antique collector. She loved viewing scary movies, reading and traveling with here husband. When Goldie and Vane retired, they moved from Bozeman, Montana to Yuma, Arizona.
Goldie is preceded in death by her mother, stepfather and husband. She is survived by her two daughters, Joyce Wheeler of Orem, Utah and Ruth Olson of Spring City, Utah; eight grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
We will celebrate her life at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at a service conducted by Branch President, J. Brent Wood, at the Vineyard Chapel, 800 South Geneva Road, Orem. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. She will be interred at Sunset Vista Cemetery in Yuma, Arizona. Arrangements made by SereniCare Funeral Directors.
