Gwendolyn Smith Walter returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 15th 2007 after a courageous, tough battle with colon cancer. She was born on July 6th 1966 to Kay D. and Jaci Smith in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Gwen grew up in Holladay, Utah and graduated from Olympus High School in 1984. She attended the University of Utah and graduated with honors from Oakland University in Michigan.
She married the love of her life Steven C. Walter on June 25th1987 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had 20 wonderful years together. She and Steve had four beautiful children, Adam, Katie, Tyler, and Brian who were the most important part of her life. Gwen loved her children with all her heart and delighted in being a mother in Zion, a noble calling. She will be missed by all who knew her. Through her trials she kept a sweet spirit and was always positive. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Steve, her children, Adam, Katie, Tyler and Brian, her parents Kay and Jaci, her in laws, La Varre and Fern Walter, her brothers and their wives, Craig (Sylfa) Smith, Kevin (Lenore) Smith, Kenneth (Traci) Smith, many Aunts and Uncles and Cousins and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elmer and Rosella Smith, John Nielsen, Dix and Fredone Nielsen Jones.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 20th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the LDS Eastdell Chapel, 9855 S. Eastdell Dr. (2300 East). A second viewing will be from 11:30 to 12:30 am, the day of the funeral, Friday, September 21st. The Funeral will be held at 1:00 pm at the Granite South Stake Center, 2126 E. Gyrfalcon Dr. (10000 S.), Sandy, Utah.
We want to thank all the nurses and doctors and hospice workers who took good care of Gwen. We are also very grateful to the many friends, family, ward members and Steve's co-workers at Ingenix for all the love and support over the past 2+ years.
Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, Sandy, Utah. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Walter children college/mission fund or to Cancer research.
