Hao Howard Sun was born on December 1, 1949 in Taipei, Taiwan and left us too soon on June 5, 2012. He was the best husband and father that his family could ever hope to have, and a great colleague and friend.
He had a B.S. in Chemistry from Chung Yuan University, and came to the United States in 1963 to earn his M.A. and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Clark University.
He did his post-doctoral training at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, and worked at the New York Aquarium and Osborn Laboratories of Marine Sciences, Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals, SeaPharm, and Altria.
He was an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland and a consultant to the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles. For the past fourteen years he has worked for Pharmanex and later NuSkin and was the Senior Director of R&D in Shanghai. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, the Society for Industrial Microbiology, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Hao Sun enjoyed traveling, listening to the Eagles and Simon & Garfunkel, looking at the great outdoors, watching comedy and action movies, and spending time with his family. He was a genuine and hardworking man who is deeply missed by his family and friends. We miss you and love you.
He is survived by his wife, Chii; children, Karen and Patrick; younger sister, Janny; and younger brother, Henry. A closed casket viewing for family and friends will be on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at SereniCare Funeral Home at 12278 So. Lone Peak Parkway, Ste 103, Draper, Utah 84020.
