Harriet Elaine Mathewson
Born 19 December 1941 in Indiana, returned to her Father in Heaven 21 February 2008, Sandy Utah. Her greatest mission in life was as a loving and nurturing mother.
She had six children: Susan (Roger) Neal, Janice (Marc) Valenzuela, Karen (Jason) Chandler, Lori (Tony) Ingram, Jack II, Marsha. She had 16 grand children and 2 great grand children. Previously married to Jack Hendrickson and George Fenstermacher. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Chris Padgett her son Jack II, and daughter Marsha.
Harriet was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at age 16. Her faith and testimony was a great strength in her life. She was an example to all who knew her. She served in many ward callings but especially loved cub scouts and primary chorister. She loved to study the scriptures and teaching Gospel Doctrine Class. Harriet loved mothering the missionaries and invited them to dinner as often as she could. She served several missions including: Stake mission, extraction mission, St. George temple mission, Distribution Center mission. She served as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple, and had the opportunity to be a worker at the open house and dedication of the North Carolina Temple. She loved family history and temple work, submitting thousands of names through extraction and extensive family research.
Harriet served as an interpreter for the deaf in the Salt Lake Temple, Mission Home, and in the tabernacle during General Conference. She served in the Deaf Ward for many years. She was involved in the Utah School for the Deaf PTSA where she was an advocate for Total Communication. She loved working at Neighborhood House and The Northwest Center with the seniors. She volunteered many hours interpreting in the community.
Harriet graduated from The Utah Technical College as a Licenced Practical Nurse. Later, she graduated from Dixie College at the age of 53. She set an example of the importance of education. She loved serving as a nurse in pediatric, Alzheimer, and hospice units over 20 years.
She loved pigs, Noah's ark collectibles, and her dogs, Gorgeous, and Nick. Playing her piano brought her great joy and she loved all kinds of music. She set an example of always looking your best.
Harriet was a elect daughter of God, and will be missed by all who knew her.
